"I read Heroes Are Hard to Find in 2 days. Couldn’t put it down. What a great story, well told."
Kevin Sullivan, former Senior Vice-President of Media Relations for NBC/Universal and assistant Secretary of Education to President George W. Bush

"I take life, art and sport seriously. My dear friend, Mike Looney captures the joy of life, art and sport in his new classic, Heroes are Hard to Find. I was thrilled when he commissioned me to create his cover. I attempted to combine the boyish frivolity inherent with baseball, the beauty of God’s earth and the threat of evil temptation. Mike tangles them all cleverly in Heroes."
Charlie Waters, Dallas Cowboy Great

"I think it’s one of the best baseball books I’ve ever encountered. Just terrific."
Greg Williams, ESPN Radio Personality and former co-host of the Hardline on 1310 The Ticket

"Looney's writing is as colorful as his moral's true blue."
Kevin Sherrington, Dallas Morning News

"One of the best reads I've had in years! Looney knows baseball and certainly knows how to spin a great tale! Loved it!"
Steve Binder, Legendary Hollywood Producer and Director

"I read this book thinking it was a sports novel. However, Heroes is a great study about lessons in life and who teaches them (not always who we expect). A very well written character study that will stand the test of time. I truly enjoyed the book. I have produced two feature films and think this story is on par with those..."
Michael Humphrey, Producer of Robin Wright Penn’s film Last Face

"Stephen King meets Field of Dreams. Loved the book. Couldn’t put it down and was sorry when I finished it. Heroes are hard to find but Mike Looney has found one in the most unlikely circumstances who finds himself.”
Kevin McCarthy, Radio Personality and host of The Kevin McCarthy show on 990AM Mainstreet Radio

"I love Looney’s book. He has written a gem."
Jack “Locker Room” Lindstrom, 92.5 FM, Dallas, Texas

"I read the book and really loved it! Great story and I am not a baseball fan! I think it has a great story line of sports, good vs. evil, role model to make the right decisions and love story."
Doris Nadel, HD Films

"The book is awesome!"
Bill Deore, National Award Winning Cartoonist for the Dallas Morning News

"I thoroughly enjoyed your presentation at the Dallas Script Writer’s Association. I read Heroes very quickly and didn’t want to put it down. It was a great read and is inspirational! As a DISD teacher, I think the book is great for the audience of seventeen and eighteen year olds. I would love to see a version written for the upper elementary and middle school level. I think it would become as popular as the book Holes has become. Thank you for writing it! Heroes is like a fine wine-this is all about time."
Lee Gabor, DISD teacher and member of the Dallas Script Writer’s Association.

"I just finished reading "Heroes Are Hard To Find" and want to let you know that I really enjoyed it. I think you did an outstanding job in defining the characters and getting your point across. I am not a rabid baseball fan, but it is obvious that you know a lot about the game. You may have missed your calling by remaining in the insurance business when you could have been writing. I assume when the movie comes out you will be Stormy Weathers."
Thor Ronningen, author, "Butlers Battlin Blue Bastards"

"I really enjoyed “Heroes Are Hard To Find”; it is one of those stories that holds your attention to the point that you cannot speed read because too many contributing facts are hidden in the paragraphs. Your talent is evident in the way you present this unusual story to the reader.  I hope you are compelled to write another. I hope I don’t meet Mac Swindell, I might be tempted to patch some of the burned bridges."
Don Nicholas, Nicholas Acoustics & Specialty Co., Jackson, MS

"I thought Heroes Are Hard To Find was great!!!"
Megan Williams, WBTN 1370, Bennington, Vermont

"I hope people realize this is not a "baseball" novel (in my opinion), but rather a "life" novel painted on a baseball canvas. If you love baseball, you'll love "Heroes Are Hard To Find"...if you don't love baseball, you'll still love "Heroes Are Hard To Find."
Randy McDaniel, KSOO Radio, Sioux Falls, S.D.

"Heroes is a superbly written book. After a fantastic beginning, of which I could relate to because of my age, Heroes settled back to allow me to live with "Cal" and urge him on to fairness in his struggles. HEROES hits a Home Run."
Bill Kersten, KCXL 1140 AM, Liberty/Kansas City

"As pure a sports book you’ll ever read. I couldn’t put it down. It has everything, baseball, nostalgia, and a good mystery."
John Nelson, Broadcaster-Fort Worth Cats Baseball Club

"I finished the book! Loved it!"
Emily W. Harwood, Financial Consultant, Schwab Park Cities

"I have recently reread both of your books listed above. With the reminder of the events of September 11, 2001 and the constant reminders of the sadness and cruelness that invades our daily lives, it made me once again appreciate your special humor and the escape provided by your works. But hey, after all it is almost World Series time, and even though the Rangers are once again secure in last place, baseball is still America’s pastime. Baseball, mixed with the divine (and not so divine) intervention that gives your main characters “another chance,” provides the perfect combination resulting in two truly entertaining and well-written stories. Wouldn’t we all love that opportunity for a second chance at youth coupled with the experience of age. Life’s lessons viewed “Looney style” come alive with the sights and sounds of the scenes, and the feelings of your characters. Your ability to describe the image makes it easy for the reader to become part of the action and be touched by the movements of the actors. Your wit coupled with the skill to make it come from the mouths of your characters keep the reader turning the pages. The story line of each book has just the right amount of twists and turns to keep each story exciting from the first to the last chapters. I appreciate the opportunity you have given me to read and enjoy your creations. It is with my confidant expectation of the success of these works that I wish you the best in your present and future literary endeavors."
John D. Stelzer, General Counsel, Chief Financial Officer, Third Baseman

"I read your book yesterday and I had to tell you how much I enjoyed it! It had all the elements that I like in a book. I think it would make a great movie. Don’t give up. I hope you have a new book in the works. Maybe a Kate and Mac story? Thanks for letting Susan and Stormy get married. Women like a little romance in their books."
Lucky Ledyard

"Simply put, I loved your book. The plot was good and well constructed. I loved the symbolism of good and evil. I loved the themes of forgiveness, redemption, love, and self respect. Your prose is almost like poetry. You paint beautiful pictures with words. I think the book would make a fabulous movie. You did a great job."
Beverly Gooden

"I just finished your book and wanted to let you know I enjoyed it a lot. Once I started I finished in 3 days. I couldn’t put it down, except when I had to. I think I enjoyed the baseball strategy the best. Looking forward to your next book."
Joe Pitzinger

"This one is destined to become a classic. I hope Hero's finds its way into every Sophomore English class in the U.S. as required reading. Heroes are Hard to Find directly deals with the consequences of not straining every decision we make through a hierarchy of justice, ethics and values. The reader is left understanding that the true luxuries of life come as a by product of who we are, and not by seeking an unfair advantage. Looney uses the both the wholesome and lurid side of baseball set against young impressionable minds attending high school to convey this powerful message. Something for all ages in this one. An easy read. A real page turner. Excellent work."
Peter Lucier

"Simply put, I could not put this book down. The depth of the development of every single character, the way the words constantly created visions in my head, and the way in which people, events, objects and conversations were woven throughout the book was inspired. I felt every possible emotion about Stormy Weathers. With each chapter, the complexities and uncertainties of everyday life, friendship, families, love, the struggle between good and evil, morals and loss is told in a manner that celebrates the human spirit. It is a lot more than a sports book - it is a life book. I loved it!!!struggle between good and evil, morals and loss is told in a manner that celebrates the human spirit. It is a lot more than a sports book - it is a life book. I loved it!!!"
Jay Ballou

"As a psychologist, I readily recognized my friend and former student was suffering from depression, even suicidal tendencies. A recent divorce was a major contributing factor. My friend, who I will refer to as WA for his ability as a horseman (wrangler) and athletic ability, had many friendly conversations but nothing served to change his depression. I finally suggested that WA read Heroes Are Hard to Find but his reply was filled with adamant anger. “Through all this divorce situation, all people want me to do is read, read, read. Even though you were my professor, I will not read any book!” With his outlook unimproved, a month later, I finally convinced WA to read just the first chapter of “Heroes.” In less than 24 hours, WA was in my office, a different individual, his excitement obvious; the depression and suicidal thoughts had vanished.“I was in a foul mood and reading anything was just too heavy emotionally for me but I had promised to read one chapter,” said WA. “Once I started, it hooked me and I finished the book at 2 a.m. and wanted to read on. I found my Bible and read for the first time verses from the Scriptures. The next day I went out and bought six copies and gave it to my son and several friends.” Now things began to open up in conversation between WA and myself. Heroes Are Hard to Find had indeed lifted a crippling depression."
Fred Minton, PHD

"I wanted to congratulate you on a really good summer read! Great plot and character development, and a moral message many in our country need to hear."
John Reed, Louisville, Kentucky

"Mike, your book was great. I couldn’t put it down. You met my wife, Kitty Dillon in October in the Dallas airport and she bought me this book for our 3rd anniversary. I appreciated the autographed copy by you as well as Charlie Waters, who I have always admired. Please let me know when your next book comes out!"
Jeff Day

"John & Donna, over at Thunderbird Resort, gave me your book a few weeks ago. Thank you so much for the nice words and the autographs. It is the centerpiece of my prized books, which includes a signed copy of “Catcher in the Rye.” Having played baseball from a very young age, through a couple of years of college, I really can identify with many of your timely quips. It’s a wonderful game at any level. Again, thank you so much!"
Don Hughes , Texas Tech ‘70

"I started reading your book on Saturday night and could not put it down. I went through 175 pages and then realized it was 3:00am and I had to get some sleep. On Sunday morning I had a Championship hockey game at noon. We lost the game and I played the worst game I have ever played. Since we lost, we had a second chance at a game at 3:00pm the same day. While I was down I started thinking about your book and how Stormy had a second chance to win... I then realized I had nothing to lose but everything to win if I just played as hard as I could. Anyhow, we won that game 4 - 2 and it was my 1st championship with this team... and I never played a better game then I did that afternoon. Thank you for writing your book as it lifted my spirit when I needed it most... Not many people would know or care about my little championship ... but to me.. it meant everything and I know your book inspired me to play my best!! After finishing the book I found it was not heading in the direction that I thought it would and found it did not relate to me or my game... but finishing right were I did made perfect sense to me!! I also like the reference to Story having a teammate loss in a plane crash.. I know that was towards Munson. But what I would like to know.. the part about Stormy having a bunch of corks fall out of his bat in Cleveland.. Was this towards Craig Nettles having the superballs in his bat? I have read alot of books and I really enjoyed yours!! I rank it right up there with Field of Dreams... It you ever get your movie I want a spot... just a stand in or whatever in Yankee Pinstripes PLEASE... I was very glad to meet you and I look forward to your short stoires... Thank you again for writing this book.. but as a TRUE Yankees fan I have to ask one question... out of all the teams that could know the Yanks out in the playoffs and end Stormy's career... DID IT HAVE TO BE THE RED SOX???"
